About the Awards
The Crescent Awards showcase and acknowledge the incredible contributions of Muslim students and educators across Australia.
Inspired by the words of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as narrated by Abu Hurairah, “Those who do not thank people, do not thank God,” the Crescent Awards offer an opportunity to celebrate and thank those who give so much across our educational institutions and communities.
Every year, students from around the country are nominated across categories including excellence in community, entrepreneurial, creative arts, and sporting achievement. Educators are nominated for their roles in fields such as student well-being, professional development, innovation in teaching and distinction in leadership.
Our annual gala event allows us to come together and celebrate the contributions of all nominees, sharing their stories, and giving them the public recognition they deserve.
The Crescent Awards are proud to give a voice to these stories and to shine a light on the extraordinary service and contribution of these remarkable people.

The Crescent Awards aim to acknowledge, recognise, and showcase:
Inspired contributions and efforts of educators, educational teams, and Muslim learners across sites of education in Australia
Distinct and inspired contributions and efforts of Muslim learners, encompassing both self-improvement and social development
Historical and longstanding distinguished and outstanding service and contribution of educators, and educational leaders and administrators in Islamic schooling in Australia
Distinct measures of success, and inspired and innovative educational praxis within education for contemporary Australian Islamic schooling; and / or other sites of education, responsive to the needs, strengths, and interests of Muslim learners
Empower and promote individual and collective efforts towards Islamic schooling renewal (Arabic—tajdīd).
Crescent Awards also aims to promote the professional efficacy of educators, educational teams and educational leaders across educational sectors and sites who have developed inspired and responsive educational praxis, and/or projects and initiatives; or added significantly and impactfully on the educational experience for Muslim learners in Australia.

The Centre for Islamic Thought and Education (CITE), positioned in the School of Education at the University of South Australia (UniSA) is dedicated to fostering the research-practice nexus for Islamic schools globally. CITE is Australia’s first Centre supporting leaders, educators, and Islamic school communities by advancing thought leadership and research, and offering teacher education and professional learning, relevant to Islamic schools and educational settings, as inspired by Islam’s distinct philosophy of education. CITE is proud to be powering Islamic school leaders and educators of distinction in Australia’s first recognised and accredited degree program based on Islamic Pedagogy.
